Our History
Salvatore Vitale, the owner of Dolce Vita, brings more than 49 years of experience in authentic Italian fare and the restaurant business. In 1969, his family left Italy to immigrate to the United States. They settled down in Brooklyn, New York. Salvatore was only 16 years old and started working in Pizza Den and Restaurant on Flatbush Ave in Brooklyn, NY. He was doing everything form washing dishes to cooking. That's when his career started and he worked there for 1 year.
In 1970, his friend, the owner of a couple of restaurants in New Jersey, invited him to work together. In 1972, Salvatore opened his 1st restaurant - Sal's Pizza Italian Restaurant - in Pennsville, New Jersey. In 1972 he moved to Roanoke, Virginia and later to Lynchburg, Virginia. Salvatore realized that there was no Italian restaurant in Lynchburg, so he decided to open the rst Italian restaurant there. It was so successful, that they started to open more restaurants in Charlottesville, Radford, a bunch of restaurants at colleges and universities.
In 1999 his son Vinny grew up and they started a chain with him and his nephew (also Vinny). They opened 20 locations named Vinny's Italian Grill and Pizzeria, where each location manager is the owner and manager
A year ago Salvatore was semi-retired and his son came in and he wanted to buy Dolce Vita Restaurant, the place at that time had a bad reputation and his son was sure that with their experience and quality food they can build on the popularity of Dolce Vita, and people will try it again and make it their dining destination in Midlothian
